Photomaps are used for the same purposes, as topographic maps onto the areas  that are not provided by topographic maps of large scale.

They are made by digital topographic maps, remote sensing data, materials of field geodetic works.

The photomap is a combination of the photographic and cartographical image of terrain and meets the same requirements of accuracy as a topographic map. The cartographical image of terrain on a photomap is given with less details, than on a usual topographic map. It is made by results of topographical decoding the aerial photographs and stereoscopic  shooting of a relief, and also with use of an available topographic map. For obtaining the photographic image of terrain at photomap  production there is used a photoplan mounted within the limits of a nomenclature trapezoid.

They are intended for detailed studying of terrain and are produced in scale 1:25 000,1:50 000 and 1:100 000.
