Nomenclature of topographic maps of Vietnam |
Nomenclature of topographic maps depends on map scale. There are the following scales of topographic maps of Socialist Republic of Vietnam: -1 : 1 000 000; -1 : 500 000; -1 : 250 000; -1 : 100 000; -1 : 50 000; -1 : 25 000; -1 : 10 000.
Maps sheets of scale 1: 1 000 000 are denoted by four capital letters of the English alphabet and figures. The first symbol indicates the hemisphere: -N – northern; -S – southern.
The second character indicates the zone number 4 ° from A to U, starting from the equator towards the two hemispheres. The next two digits indicate the number of zones of ruling the earth ellipsoid, starting with the meridian of 180 °. Is from 1 to 60, increasing in the east direction (for example: NF-48).
Maps of scale 1: 500 000 are designated by capital letters of English alphabet A, B, C, D which are recorded after the sheet's nomenclature of maps of scale 1: 1 000 000 (for example NC-48-C).
Maps of scale 1: 250 000 are designated by figures from 1 to 16 which are recorded after the sheet's nomenclature of maps of scale 1: 1 000 000 (for example: NF-48-16).
Maps of scale 1: 100 000 are designated by four figures. The first two figures are started from 00 (east meridian 75 °) and are increased towards the east. The next two figures are started from 01 (southern parallel 4 °) and are increased in the direction of the north (for example 5949).
Examples of nomenclatures of topographic maps are given in the table 1.
