Nomenclature of topographical map |
Nomenclature (map sheet title) of topographic maps depends on their scales. The following scales of topographic maps exist: - 1: 1 000 000, - 1: 500 000, - 1: 200 000, - 1: 100 000, - 1: 50 000, - 1: 25 000, - 1: 10 000. - 1: 5 000.
Template of Nomenclature of 1:10 000 map looks like: 9 . Z - 99 - 999 - 9 - 9 - 9 1 . 2 - 34 - 567 - 8 - 9 - 10
Dot or dash may be used as delimiter. 1 symbol means northern or southern hemisphere and accepts value: 0 - northern; 1 - southern. Symbol 2 denotes "Latitude zone" or Row (Latin character from A to U). 3,4 symbols. "Longitude zone" or Column (Integer from 1 to 60). Numbering is starting from meridian of 180 degrees. Accept the values from 1 to 60, increasing in the direction of the east. Symbols 5,6,7 denotes the number of the map sheet of scale 1 : 100 000. If the map sheet of scale 1 : 1 000 000, accepts values from 1 to 144. If the map sheet of scale 1 : 200 000, accepts values from 1 to 36 (respectively 5,6-th symbol). If the map sheet of scale 1 : 500 000, accept values from 1 to 4 (respectively 5-th symbol). Symbol 8 - a location of a map sheet of scale 1: 50 000. At ruling a map sheet of scale 1:100 000, accepts values from 1 to 4. Symbol 9 - a location of a map sheet of scale 1: 25 000. At ruling a map sheet of scale 1:50 000, accepts values from 1 to 4. Symbol 10 - a location of a map sheet of scale 1: 10 000. At ruling a map sheet of scale 1:25 000, accepts values from 1 to 4.
