GIS Map 2011, as well as earlier versions of the GIS, provides the multiuser access to maps for viewing and editing. But it can open maps not only in the file-server mode, but also in the client-server mode.

GIS Server 2011 program is applied as a server for access to maps.

It gives the removed access to vector maps, rasters and matrixes. Connection with a server is installed under TCP\IP protocol with use of the mechanism of sockets.

At one point in time you can connect to one server.

Between the client and a server the binary data - coordinates of objects, attributes, blocks of data of rasters and matrixes are transferred. Therefore for normal work the high-speed connection of a client and a server is required, for example, by network Ethernet 100 Mbit\sec.

Placement of data on a server provides protection of data against illegal copying and change. The user chooses for work the data by their conditional names (alias). The list of accessible data is formed own for each user by the user's name and password. Vector maps can be opened for viewing or for viewing and editing. Rasters and matrixes are accessible only to viewing and an execution of calculations. Besides, all data can be closed or opened for copying from a server - into exchange formats, into the clipboard or onto other maps.

The list of users, the list of data and their properties are stored on a server in a file of parameters GISSERVER.XML. Creation and editing of a file of parameters is carried out by the administrator of a server by means of the special program - GIS Administrator 2011. Lists of passwords are stored in a file of parameters in the ciphered kind by MD5 algorithm.

All actions of users with data on a server are protocoled into the textual protocol of the program work - \LOG \gisserver.log. The folder \LOG is placed in a folder with the program of the GIS Server 2011.

The current condition of access to data is displayed on the console of a server.

Programs of GIS Map 2011, Panorama-editor of version 10 and higher, GIS Navigator 2011, MapView 2011 and the applied tasks developed on GIS ToolKit can be connected to the GIS Server.
