Recommendations for creating a set of elements and examples

1.        To Minimize the number of vector signs in a set -the more vector signs are used, the slower the line is drawn. If 2 or more signs must lie on a straight line (rotation of signs is not allowed), then it is necessary to implement this sequence as a one vector sign.

2.        For strokes drawn along the contour, use the «Line» element - on gentle turns the line is not broken and corresponds to the contour as much as possible. If rotation of the «Line» element is unacceptable, then the stroke must be implemented in the form of a «Vector sign» element.

3.        Do not split the «Line» element into two or more consecutive elements - individual elements have a worse connection at the junctions of the elements.

Examples of descriptions A and B of sets of the «Wooden lattice fence» sign in the dialog:

Example A. The set contains abundant number of elements (12):

11 vector signs (5 longitudinal strokes, 1 cross stroke, 5 longitudinal strokes) and 1 space. The initial element (short stroke) is indicated as an end sign, so a short stroke is drawn at the end of the contour.

Example B. The set contains 4 elements: line, vector sign (cross stroke), line, space. The third element (line) is indicated as an end sign, so a full stroke is drawn at the end of the contour. In the list of elements the end sign is highlighted with a red frame.

Example A. When drawing of 11 vector elements, the joints of neighboring elements are noticeable, so the contour has a «ragged» appearance. For 12 elements of the set there is only one stretchable element (space). Space takes 17 percent of the element set's length, so the contour has uneven correction of space length. The set contains the wrong end sign, so the right contour ends with a short stroke.

Example B: The stretchable elements (two lines) occupy 83 percent of the length of the set of elements. If there are lines, the spaces do not stretch. The lines are stretched (or compressed) by the same factor along their entire length. Correction of lines lengths is carried out to ensure that the contour always ends with the specified full-size element.

If there is no need to end with a specific element, you must disable the end sign. In this case, line length correction will not be performed - all lines and spaces will have a nominal length, and the contour will end with an arbitrary end sign.

Examples C and D of sets of the sign «Contour of vegetation, soils» in the dialog:

Example C. The set contains an abundant number of elements (4):

2 identical vector signs and 2 identical spaces. An increase in the number of signs worsens the quality of the placement of signs in a curved contour.

Example D. The set contains 2 elements: a space, a vector sign. The first element (space) is specified as the end sign, so there is a space at the beginning and in the end of the contour.

Example C. The first element of the set is a vector sign, so the contour starts with a vector sign (dot). The first point of the left dotted contour (highlighted with a red dashed line) intersects with the outline of the frame. A space is selected as the end sign, so there is a full-size space at the end of the contour. The right (unselected) dotted contour is adjacent to the left contour with its last point and also has a full-size space. The increased number of signs in the set worsens the placement of signs in areas with a large number of points, due to the difficulty of placing a complete set of signs (2.4 mm long), especially on turning areas with a small radius.

Example D. The first element (space) is indicated as the end sign, so there is a space at the beginning and at the end of the contour. If the first element is selected as the end sign and is stretchable, then the first and last elements of the contour begin and end with half the length of the element. This rule allows you to improve the appearance of the contour at the junctions with other contours. The points of the left (highlighted with a red dashed line) and right dotted contours do not intersect. The reduced number of signs in the set improves the placement of signs in areas with a large number of points, when the distance between the points is less than the length of the complete set (1.2 mm).
