Forming and maintaining the list of groups

Spatial data in exchange formats are stored as a distributed hierarchical file storehouse.

The databank of digital maps can contain the following types of data:

-digital vector maps and plans;

-digital images of terrain and scanned map-materials;

-digital matrixes of heights and digital terrain models;

-base of metadata.

To improve the performance of work of a data bank of digital maps, in the processing of large amounts of data, it is advisable to place the data on different physical media.

For convenience of databank administration it is possible to form separate groups of data. For example, the vector data can be grouped into digital maps and digital town plans, to select separate scales or regions.

Each group of data has its own parametres of placing data for the organization of long-term storage, account, backup, selection and delivery.

For forming the List of groups the mode of Options\Table of groups is used.

List of groups:

To form a new group press the button «Add record» and enter the following information:

-a code name of group;

-full path to the folder for storage of the data sets within the group;

-a comment, a brief description;

type of metadata.
