Assessment of road network

Assessment of road network is one of important components of an assessment of terrain during combat operations. At assessment of road network on the area part it is necessary to know such parametres as the total length of roads, lengths of roads with various types of surface, density of roads, uniformity of development of the road network, prevailing longitudinal gradients of the road sections, average throughput of roads, and also presence of bridges, their length, load capacity and a material of road surface. This mode is intended for assessment of the road network at the selected area part. Result of work is the report in the form of document of Microsoft Office Word or Open Office Writer.

At least one open map is necessary for dialog work. The matrix of heights opened together with a map is necessary for possibility of calculating the prevailing longitudinal inclines. Also the Setup file in XML format, is necessary for dialogue work which should be placed next to the classifier of the main map and have a name <classifier name>.rsc.xml.

In the top part of dialog there is located the drop-down list of maps available to perform the assessment. Below the list of maps  there are two bookmarks - «Area sizes» and «Title information».

The bookmark «Area sizes» is intended to select the area of assessment. In total, four ways of area selection are available - by coordinates, by frame, by contour and by object. At specifying the sizes of area by coordinates it is necessary to set the number of points and to enter coordinates of points in rectangular or geodetic coordinates, having chosen the appropriate bookmark with windows of coordinates input. If any of the input fields is left blank, then the button "Run" is not available. At performance of assessment the coordinates will be taken from that bookmark which is active. When you specify the size for the area by a frame, a contour or by object it is necessary to choose the appropriate point and to press button "Select". Dialog will be closed and you will be able to select an area on a map by a frame, or by any contour, or to choose a polygon object. Then dialogue again will be displayed and it will be possible to make assessment of road network by the selected method.

In the bookmark «Title information» the information is entered for making report. Fields "Scale" and «Edition year» are filled automatically from the map passport and are unavailable for editing. If any of the input fields is left blank, then the button "Run" is not available.

Below the bookmarks for selection of sizes and filling the title information there is located the element of a choice of the program in which the report will be saved.

Once all information is entered, you can begin to assess the road network by clicking "Run" button.
