Building of  orthodrome

ic_8442 Orthodrome is an image on a map of the line, connecting two point on a terrestrial surface by the shortest distance.

Depending on a projection in which the map is created, and distances between points, the straight line on a terrestrial surface can have essential curvature on a map.

This mode can be used on a map of any projection in case for this projection the recalculation into geodetic coordinates can be carried out.

It can be checked up in item of the main menu of system «Options - Coordinate system».

For building of orthodrome on a terrestrial surface it is necessary by pressing of the left mouse button to designate  reference points which one will be in corporated  the smooth curve representing an orthodrome line. For the constructed  line the length is calculated.

After double pressing the Left mouse button the creating of orthodromes is considered finished, the length of an orthodrome line is deduced into a window of results. Using a mode of the Map Editor: Saving of conditional object, for the constructed line it is possible to choose a conventional symbol and to write down as object of a map.

On some maps (for example, a map of a projection: cylindrical special, scale - 40 million) for separate points it is impossible to display a line of an orthodrome in the form of a continuous line. At creation of an orthodrome line the points of break are uniting by a direct line, the general length of a line in view of a connecting straight line is shown in a line of comments. After ending creating in a window of results the length of an orthodrome is deduced only, the conditional object with a subobject is created.
